Cinelinx Attends the Call of Duty World League Championship This Weekend

The quest for a share of $1.5 million and the titles of Call of Duty World League Champions is on the line this weekend when the CWL Championship 2017 goes down in Orlando and we'll be there!  Come inside for more details!

Football, Soccer, Baseball, Basketball, Hockey, and Esports.  Sports traditionalist may scoff at the insertion of Esports as part of the major sporting community, but the reality is, Esports is here and it's growing.  Every week, different games are being played in various tournaments, around the world, for hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars.  These tournaments get broadcasted to Twitch, YouTube, and even ESPN and TBS so the growing Esports community can watch their favorite Esports gamers go toe-to-toe with the best.

As you may have noticed, Cinelinx has actually started to post more and more Esports content on our site, over the past few months.  That's actually due to my avid interest in the world of Esports.  From Street Fighter V to Rocket League to Overwatch to Call of Duty, Esports has caught my attention and hasn't let go.  I've even found myself streaming from my phone, to the TV, to back to my phone when my wife decides to watch Real Housewives of Something or Another (New York, at the moment), to keep up with each and every tournament taking place.

Suffice to say, you can expect a LOT more Esports coverage in the coming weeks and months right here on Cinelinx.  It's our goal to become THE place for Esports coverage.  The first step in doing that is to be in attendance for the biggest Call of Duty event of the year the CWL Championship 2017, happening this weekend.

From Friday, August 11 to Sunday, August 13, you will find me and a mass of the Esports fandom filling the Amway Center in Orlando, FL to see the greats of Call of Duty, from around the world, duke it out for the titles of 2017 CWL Champions and the lion's share of 1.5 million dollars!

Here's how it works.  Previously, it was announced that this would be the set up for the group stage.

In the two days leading up to the event (8/9 & 8/10), these groups are playing amongst each other to figure out who will be in the Winner and the Loser brackets.  Starting tomorrow, it'll be the double elimination round for each of these brackets.  It'll continue on throughout the weekend until there are only two teams left.  The winner of the Winner bracket and the winner of the Loser bracket.  Sunday night, those two teams will face off and we will crown a champion!

This weekend's $1.5 million finale marks the end to what has been a thrilling season of Call of Duty World League, culminating in $4 million awarded.  The event, hosted by Major League Gaming but presented by PS4, has been the biggest Activision has ever put on in the short 2 years of existence, and it's only going to get bigger.

So, what can you expect from us?  Follow my Twitter and the Cinelinx Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for pics, live reports, and reactions, as well as a nightly recap of the day's events.  It's going to be an amazing weekend and you guys are going to be in the passenger seat!

There's still time for you to join me too!  Tickets are still on sale, click here!  To watch the event, you can stream it on MLG.tv and the various social media sites!
