David S. Goyer has been working on a Star Wars VR project and the first details have been revealed today for Vader Immortal, a new series that will take you to the Dark Lord's castle in VR. Come inside for more details!
On the heels of Oculus' new announcement of the Oculus Quest (a wireless, standalone VR headset which works without the need of a PC attached), ILMxLAB and Lucasfilm have revealed Vader Immortal. The new series will allow you to dive into an all new story that sits between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.
Being VR, you'll be immersed in the heart of the story and interacting with it as much as you're watching it, including having to deal with Darth Vader himself. While details on the story are scarce, it will be part of official canon and expand on the story of Darth Vader and you can watch a quick teaser for it now:
The series won't debut until 2019, so we still have a bit of time to wait. While we do, check out an interview with David S. Goyer about Vader Immortal over on the official Star Wars site for more information on how the project has come together. I've yet to jump onto the VR bandwagon, but if there's one thing I've learned in all my years...It's that I'll buy just about anything for Star Wars!
Some may think it's a bummer we're getting an all new Star Wars story, featuring one of its most iconic characters, that's exclusive to a new VR machine. It would be nice to have some version of this tale come in a different form for others to consume, but alas, it's nothing fans haven't dealt with before. As more information comes out, we'll be sure to keep you updated!
