Square Enix has announced plans to celebrate 2 years of Final Fantasy XV with a multitude of new content for Final Fantasy fans to enjoy! Although, not everything they've been working on will see the light of day. More within...
Can you believe it's been 2 years since Noctis and the gang first arrived at Hammerhead Service Station? It's crazy, I know, but Final Fantasy XV is indeed celebrating its 2nd Anniversary and Square Enix is popping the bubbly, ready to serve up new content in its honor. While there won't be anything to continue the story, we will gain access to some much-needed context for one mysterious character, see a collaboration with another Final Fantasy brand, and experience a whole new way of playing MULTIPLAYER: COMRADES.
This is everything Square Enix plans to release for Final Fantasy XV, over the next few months...
Episode Ardyn - March 2019
EPISODE ARDYN offers players the opportunity to step into the role ofFINAL FANTASY XV’s main antagonist. Set before the events of FINAL FANTASY XV, players will learn more about Ardyn’s backstory in a story of death and restoration.
Along with the release of Ardyn's prequel, which clearly turns you into a God, fans will also have the opportunity to view a special anime episode dedicated to him in FINAL FANTASY XV EPISODE ARDYN - PROLOGUE.
Adventurer from Another World - Final Fantasy XIV Online & Final Fantasy XV Collaboration - December 12, 2018 at 5PM PT
Available to all FINAL FANTASY XV players as a free update, the event introduces a new in-game quest titled “Adventurer from Another World.” In this quest, Noctis embarks on a journey with the mysterious Miqo’te, Y’jhimei to Perpetouss Keep, which concludes with a fierce battle against the primal Garuda from FINAL FANTASY XIV Online. Players who complete the quest will receive special FINAL FANTASY XIV-themed costumes as a reward.
Final Fantasy XV MULTIPLAYER: COMRADES (Standalone) - December 12, 2018 at 5PM PT
Players can participate in various hunt, guard and convoy quests in co-op gameplay with up to four other players. The new update will bring 10 additional powerful bosses for players to face off against. Current owners of FINAL FANTASY XV MULTIPLAYER EXPANSION: COMRADES who wish to continue playing on Xbox One and the PlayStation®4 system can download the standalone edition for free when it launches on December 12 at 5pm Pacific Standard Time. PC players will be able to download ongoing updates for the COMRADES expansion.
Unfortunately, though, not all of the DLC content they've been working on will be released. Square Enix has also announced that episodes featuring Aranea, Lunafreya and Noctis have been cancelled following the departure of Game Director Hajima Tabata, who recently resigned. While that is a massive blow, Square Enix still plans on moving forward with what they have mostly finished, as is indicative of this 2nd Anniversary announcement. Whether this spells the end of Square Enix's development for Final Fantasy XV remains to be seen.
