Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has apprently scored one of the lead roles in the upcoming Matrix 4, which will also bring back Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss.
One of my favorite parts of the Aquaman movie was Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s portrayal of Black Manta. He did an excellent job as the villainous character so I’m really excited to see him join up with one of my all-time favorite franchises: The Matrix.
According to Variety, director Lana Wachowski had been meeting with several actors over the past week, with Abdul-Mateen ultimately emerging at the top. Sadly, there’s no telling what the role is for right now. Back when rumors for a new Matrix film first started swirling (well before the confirmation of Matrix 4 came from WB this past August), word was it would feature a young Morpheus.
While some reports claim this could be the role Abdul-Mateen has landed…I’m not sure how that would work. With Neo and Trinity returning for the story, I don’t see how it could be a “prequel” as was once rumored. Perhaps the part is for a character related to Morpheus. Time will tell, but with filming slated to begin early in 2020 (just a few months away!) hopefully we’ll learn more sooner rather than later.
