I’m not sure exactly where to begin here, so let’s talk a little bit about how we got all this info. Our buds over at Jedi News noticed this image that was taken from the European Brand Licensing Show going on right now in London. Apparently this is from a brochure that was handed out to attendees, and it details Disney’s plans for Star Wars over the next couple years:
First of all in Spring/Summer 2014 it looks like we’re getting mobiel ports of the original LEGO Star Wars games (so if you never got to play those, this is a good opportunity). Most interesting, however, is that we’re also getting some Darth Vader TV Specials?! We’ve heard nothing about those so far, and sadly there’s not anymore information about them, other than what you see.
What could those entail? Would they be something to go with Rebels, before the show’s premiere a few months later? Or would they be more along the lines of behind the scenes things, talking about his origins in the script and artwork, and how he’s become an icon in pop-culture (nonfiction)? Hell, it could be something entirely new too! Either way, I’m interested to see what’s going on with that.
2014 is also bringing the launch of a Digital Library…but I have no idea what that would be. That could be for books or comics, or maybe even the last episodes of The Clone Wars. Time will tell.
Perhaps the most interesting thing in the brochure is that it’s still listing Episode VII as a Summer 2015 release. Many rumors and sources lately have been claiming that Disney was moving the film back to a Holiday 2015 time frame (which made more sense when Ant-Man was moved out of the Holidays and into Summer). While there is still every chance of them changing the release period, based on this brochure, it’s apparent they still want to keep it in the Summer time slot. Interesting.
All I know, is this is more information than we’ve gotten on Star Wars (that’s official) in a long time, and I’m over the moon excited about it. Of course these types of expos are meant to give distributors and licensees a chance to see what’s coming and ‘invest’, so these are broad ideas. While it’s official information, it’s very much subject to change. Hopefully we’ll get more information from Disney on these projects very soon!
What do you guys think about all this information?
