It looks like DC is ready to bring the Blue Beetle to the big screen. According to reports from The Wrap, the studio has hired Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (who most recently penned the Scarface reboot for Universal) to write the script.
While some fans (including a very vocal one on our staff) were hoping for the original Blue Beetle, Ted Kord, to get the big screen treatment, it looks like they’re instead going with the most recent character to wear the title, Jaime Reyes. Reyes became the Blue Beetle back in 2006, debuting during the Infinite Crisis run, and most will probably recognize him from his appearance in the Young Justice cartoon.
The film is still in early development, but it’s neat to see more heroes getting the chance to shine in DC’s vast universe.
