Diego Luna Joins the Rebel Forces in Star Wars: Rogue One

We’re only a month or two away from Rogue One rolling cameras (at least from what we’ve heard), and that means it’s time for more cast members to join up.  While we’ve heard some rumbling here and there on various people, the only confirmed actor so far is Felicity Jones.  Today, Variety reports that Diego Luna (Milk, Elysium) has joined the cast in a lead role:

Sources tell Variety that Diego Luna has landed a lead role opposite Felicity Jones and Riz Ahmed, with Ben Mendelsohn set to star as the film’s primary villain.

So a couple pieces of information here.  One is that Diego Lunas is signed on for a Rebel role, and secondly, further confirmation that Ben Mendelsohn is in the film, though now it’s as a villain (which is pretty damn perfect).  Technically speaking this is a “rumor” but considering the source, I’d be surprised if this somehow didn’t happen.  Hopefully we’ll get a good sized cast list whenever production begins.

Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One is set to hit theaters on December 16, 2015.
