As part of D23, Disney has revealed a new poster for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, one that promises a titanic clash for the ages as the Skywalker saga comes to a close.
In a year full of epic conclusions and follow-ups (Avengers: Endgame, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and John Wick 3 come to mind), Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, could arguably be considered the biggest of them all. The conclusion to a saga that began in 1977 has been a long time coming, and now we’ve got a new poster to whet our appetites even further.
Holy…I mean this really shows you everything you need to know doesn’t it? At the center of the image are Rey and Kylo Ren, locked in the midst of a deadly conflict. And watching it all…is the familiar face of the Emperor, whose presence in the story was revealed in the first trailer for The Rise of Skywalker back at Star Wars: Celebration in April. In case there was any doubt about the role Palpatine would be playing in the story, this image should put those doubts to rest. Like Vader in the earlier films, Palpatine will loom over the conclusion to the saga, as he has for most of the story in one shape or another.
Here’s hoping that this poster means the release of a new trailer is imminent. I was already excited for The Rise of Skywalker, but seeing this poster, with the Emperor himself in the background, has whipped my excitement back up to a fever pitch.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will bring the Skywalker saga to a close on December 20, 2019.
