Comic book fans everywhere rejoiced when the news first broke that an animated adaption of the Elseworlds story Superman: Red Son was in the works. Now we have our first official look at that film, along with the full voice cast.
It could be argued that Superman: Red Son is one of the most popular Superman stories created in recent years, and a faithful adaptation should be mind-blowing. For those who might not be familiar, Superman: Red Son takes the Superman story we all know and gives it one significant twist: instead of crash landing in the heartland of the United States, Kal-El’s spaceship lands smack in the middle of the Soviet Union, where the young Superman is raised with Soviet ideals to become a champion of Communism. Understandably, a lot changes as a result.
Our first visual of the film shows Superman in the iconic “Red Son” look, with the shield displaying the hammer and sickle of the Soviet Union instead of the traditional “S” logo. For the voice cast, we have the following information:
- Jason Isaacs as Superman
- Diedrich Bader as Lex Luthor
- Amy Acker as Lois Lane
- Vanessa Marshall as Wonder Woman
- Phil Morris as James Olsen
- Paul Williams as Brainiac
- Sash Roiz and Phil LaMarr as Hal Jordan and Jon Stewart respectively
- Roger Graig Smith as Batman
- Travis Willingham as John F. Kennedy and Superior Man
- William Sayers as Joseph Stalin
- Ave Zoli as Svetlana
With a voice cast this loaded, I’m beyond excited to see Superman: Red Son next year. The movie is directed by Sam Liu and will be released on DVD/Blu-Ray sometime during the first quarter of 2020.
