Now I’m a big fan of the Ghost in The Shell franchise but I was skeptical when I heard there was going to be a big budget live action version of it. Are my fears unfounded? I think we both know the answer to that question. Hollywood you have burned me before. But here’s a look at the trailer which admittedly looks pretty damn amazing.
Okay I remember having to ride three buses in Dallas to get to the one theater in Dallas that was playing this movie back in 1995. I was blown away by the opening visuals and though Masamune Shirow’s visuals from the manga were familiar to me Seeing them animated just floored me. But let’s focus on the trailer. Now speaking with my fellow Cinelinx brother Mike it would appear the movie will be taking some elements from the Stand Alone Complex series. This way we’ll be covering an origin for Kusunagi or in this case The Major.
Based on the internationally-acclaimed sci-fi property, “GHOST IN THE SHELL” follows Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.
Fans of the source material may not be happy with the origin being changed but we all pretty much knew there would be changes. Visually it looks as though we will be getting some scenes harkening back to the original work but an open mind would serve you well when you plant your butt in the seats March 31, 2017 when Ghost in The Shell hits theaters.
