In Drew Pearce‘s short career, he has been known as the writer for such films as Iron Man 3, Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, and the upcoming Sherlock Holmes 3. The latest movie he’s written, Hotel Artemis, has brought him to a new facet of the filmmaking process, the director’s chair. For his directorial debut, he’s picked what looks to be a good one. Hotel Artemis includes an all-star cast of Hollywood greats like Sterling K. Brown, Jodie Foster, Charlie Day, Sofia Boutella, Jeff Goldblum, Brian Tyree Henry, Jenny Slate, Zachary Quinto, and Dave Bautista.
What makes this movie so appealing is that it looks reminiscent of John Wick…just without John Wick.
While the Hotel Artemis is no Continental, it seems that a few of the same rules apply between the two secret criminal havens. No guns and no killing the hotel guests. However, instead of Ian McShane and Lance Reddick in charge, it’s Jodie Foster‘s The Nurse who calls the shots at Hotel Artemis. While it’s themes appear to be the same, Hotel Artemis is able to go broader by giving us different personalities and what looks like may be an all-out war inside the Hotel Artemis, contrary to the John Wick approach of focusing on one singular character.
Hotel Artemis hits theaters June 8, 2018!
