While Fantastic Beasts has a lot of good will coming its way thanks to the incredible Harry Potter franchise, to be honest, I wasn’t thrilled with the first two trailers we got. They were okay, but didn’t really impress me or give a good sense of the characters/story. They relied too much on the “return to the Wizarding World” aspect of the film, without showing what makes it unique. Thus, I’m pretty happy with today’s new trailer:
I’m chalking up the first two trailers being sub-par to the fact the film was still wrapping up, and effects work was just getting started. They were limited in what they could show, but with the huge Harry Potter fan base, they didn’t want to wait too long to show something. As such, the SDCC trailer is leaps and bounds better, giving me some reason to care about the characters while diving into the story and lore. I’m digging it.
“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident…were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hits theaters on November 18, 2016.
