From low budget horror to big budget monsters, a new report from THR marks the monstrous boost in Adam Wingard‘s career as he’s signed on to be the director for the upcoming big fight film, Godzilla vs King Kong!
The news shouldn’t be as surprising as many would believe. While Wingard’s resume includes smaller films like You’re Next and The Guest, his career has seemed to grow with each film he directs. More recently, he directed the Blair Witch reboot and Netflix‘s Americanized adaptation of Death Note. Now, he’ll take what he’s learned to the big screen with Legendary and Warner Bros. Pictures‘ clash film in their monster universe.
Legendary and Warner Bros. have put in a lot of time and effort into making a successful monster universe. While critics may not have unanimously enjoyed Gareth Edwards‘ Godzilla or Jordan Vogt-Roberts‘ Kong: Skull Island, fans still turned out for both with Kong earning $565 million worldwide and Godzilla earning $529 million worldwide. Additionally, both served as good setups for what’s to come in Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Adam Wingard’s new gig.
Terry Rossio (Pirates of the Caribbean) is serving as lead writer for Gozilla vs King Kong with writers from Star Trek Beyond, Maze Runner, and Babylon 5 joining him in the writer’s room.
Godzilla vs King Kong is scheduled to release May 22, 2020!
