I’ve always been a sucker for stop-motion films, and Laika Studios have given audiences some of the best over the last several years. After the gorgeous action, and heart-gripping story of Kubo and the Two Strings, I was incredibly eager to see what they had next…This was especially true when we learned it was about Bigfoot!
I’m a huge nerd for cryptozoology stuff (Loch Ness, Chupacabra, etc.), so this seemed like a film specifically designed with me in mind. As such, I was delighted to see the first trailer for Missing Link arrive this morning:
I’m digging it. It’s definitely a different take on the Bigfoot mythos, but I like the idea of seeing him encounter of all these other mythical creatures on the journey to find his family. The film itself looks bright and vibrant, with a decidedly adventurous feel to it. Combined with the humor and voice work from Hugh Jackman, Zoe Saldana, and Zach Galifianakis, it definitely seems like Laika has another solid film in store for us next year.
This April, meet Mr. Link: 8 feet tall, 630 lbs, and covered in fur, but don’t let his appearance fool you… he is funny, sweet, and adorably literal, making him the world’s most lovable legend at the heart of Missing Link, the globe-trotting family adventure from LAIKA. Tired of living a solitary life in the Pacific Northwest, Mr. Link recruits fearless explorer Sir Lionel Frost to guide him on a journey to find his long-lost relatives in the fabled valley of Shangri-La. Along with adventurer Adelina Fortnight, our fearless trio of explorers encounter more than their fair share of peril as they travel to the far reaches of the world to help their new friend. Through it all, the three learn that sometimes you can find a family in the places you least expect.
Missing Link hits theaters on April 12, 2019.
