As The Mummy wakes up to hit theaters, its director adds a few more monsters to the world. Plus some casting choices and possible confirmation on who he would like to see make their way to the Dark Universe.
This Friday The Mummy hits theaters and we can officially kick off what might be called The Dark Universe. The Mummy will see Tom Cruise take on Sofia Boutella in a film directed by Alex Kurtzman. It is a second reboot of the classic Universal monster film of the same name. Kurtzman recently spoke with FANDOM about the universe on a whole and gave us a little bit more of an incite what other classic monsters we can expect.
“We know we’re going to do Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, Dracula, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Phantom of the Opera, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Invisible Man,”
Most of which we knew were coming, but the new editions include Phantom of the Opera and the Hunchback of Notre Dame, as well as confirmation on Creature from the Black Lagoon. We already knew that Javier Bardem will be playing Frankenstein’s Monster, and Johnny Depp is on board as the Invisible Man. There is still no idea if Luke Evans’ Dracula from Dracula Untold will be the Dracula we go with, but it is probably unlikely at this point.
While we still await casting news for Bride of Frankenstein directed by Bill Condon, Kurtzman did speak on some actors and actresses he would like in the world they are putting together.
“I’d love to bring Michael Fassbender in, I’d love to bring Jennifer Lawrence in, I’d love to see Charlize Theron in there, Angelina Jolie…”
Jolie has been long rumored for the Bride of Frankenstein, and perhaps this is Kurtzman’s way of letting us know that she is still on the table for the roll. How this universe will roll out is still up in the air, we just have to wait and see what this world will look like, and we will get our first look this Friday with The Mummy. Keep your eyes peeled here to Cinelinx for a review.
