The Conjuring films have turned out to be the horror gift that just keeps on giving, as word of another spin-off (based off the other "monster" in The Conjuring 2) is currently in the works for Warner Bros/New Line. Come inside to learn more!
James Wan's impressive horror movie, The Conjuring, is doing a decent job of establishing it's own little horror movie universe; so much so, Warner Bros wants to expand it further. The first film spawned a spin-off based on Annabelle the doll, which has a sequel, Annabelle: The Creation, coming out August 11, 2017. On top of that, the creepy Nun from The Conjuring 2, is getting her own film which is set to open July 13, 2018.
Today brings word of yet another, this one based off the other demonic entity presented in The Conjuring 2, the Crooked Man. While I kind of rolled my eyes at The Nun (her role seemed minimal in the film to me), I find myself intrigued by The Crooked Man. The monster didn't get much attention in the film's marketing, but frankly I thought his role was more interesting to the story than the Nun's. As such, I could see more potential out of a Crooked Man film, and it's simple but terrifying nursery rhyme.
Mike Van Waes has been hired to write The Crooked Man based on a story from James Wan, who is still producing the project. As The Conjuring Universe (yes, they're really calling it that now) continues to expand, let's hope they can continue to bring interesting horror stories to the big screen without growing stale.
