20th Century Fox has revealed some changes to their upcoming comic book movie release schedule with new dates for Deadpool 2, New Mutants, and Gambit. Come inside to learn more!
Hot on the heels of the news that Gore Verbinski has dropped out of the director slot for Gambit (marking the THIRD director the film has gone through), Fox has revealed a change up to their release date schedule, which has been reported on by THR. Understandably, Gambit has been pushed back and will no longer release on Feb. 14, 2019, instead moving a prime Summer spot later that year, June 7, 2019.
That's not the only comic book movie on their slate that's moved, however, as Josh Boone's upcoming New Mutants, which was slated to hit in just a few months won't be released until NEXT year on February 22, 2019. It's a big move, especially since the marketing machine has already begun for the film. Heck, it even got a few mentions on our Most Anticipated Movies list for this year. No reason has been given for the big push, but I guess we're gonna have to hope the delay is for the best.
If you're bummed out, the one bit of good news is that you'll be getting Deadpool 2 a little bit earlier. Fox has moved it forward from June 1, to arrive on May 18, 2018. That's just ONE WEEK before Solo: A Star Wars Story and a couple weeks after Avengers: Infinity War hits. It's an interesting move, but considering it's being marketed to a very different audience, I think it'll be just fine.
What do you think of these release date moves?
