This morning brings about the teaser trailer for Venom, the Spider-Man villain solo film that (supposedly) won't feature Spider-Man...And it doesn't show a whole lot. Come inside to check it out.
Despite the odd placement of this Venom movie, where it will be part of a "Spider-Man" universe for Sony but won't include the MCU Spider-Man that they share with Marvel (though rumors keep shifting on that), I'm excited for Venom. Where Spider-Man has always been my favorite superhero, Venom has long been among my favorite villains/anti-heroes. I'm hopeful they can nail the character on the big screen this time around and we get more cool stuff.
That said...this trailer doesn't do a whole lot for me:
It's not necessarily a bad trailer, but it doesn't give anyone any kind of clue as to what it's about. We don't even SEE Tom Hardy in the titular role, suited up! I get it, they just finished filming and the movie isn't set to release until Fall; the VFX aren't ready. In that case, why give us a trailer at all? It'd be like giving us a Batman movie trailer without showing Batman. Not to mention, there's no indication as to the plot or what's going on.
It's just an odd trailer that doesn't set the tone, nor introduce the character to the audice. While I'm still excited for the movie in general, they're gonna have to bring their 'A' game for the next trailer and reveals.
One of Marvel's most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award® nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom.
Our resident movie specialist and wrestling champion, BC, took a look at the Venom trailer, as well. Watch as he reacts!
Venom hits theaters on October 5, 2018.
