Disney adds Donnie Yen and Jet Li to Live Action Mulan

Disney has been killing it lately with their Live Action adaptations of their classic animated films. From the films their selves, to the casting. Now Disney has knocked another casting out of the park.

Martial Arts Badass Donnie Yen is set to join the Live Action Mulan in the role of Commander Tung. Tung will fill the role of a mentor and teacher to Mulan. The news comes from Deadline who reported this morning that the Rogue One star was joining the cast.

Donnie Yen joining the cast is the first casting announcement since we found out that Liu Yifei was cast in the title role last year. The film is taking it's time in preporation for its coming and is said to have a pirmarily a chinese cast. As the film is set to make it's release in theaters on May 27, 2020. Adding Donnie Yen adds a large amount of gravitas to this film. In a mentor role Yen could truly add an inspiring amount of heart to the film. Not only a badass, Yen has proved in his past roles that he can truly carry some heart in a film. Yen broke out in American Cinema thanks to a cult following of the IP Man franchise. He has been a major staple in martial arts films over seas, and has become known to audiences in America due to the crossover of IP Man plus roles in Blade IICrouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon sequel Sword of Destiny, xXx: The Return of Xander Cage and of course Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

As well, in an Exclusive by THR, it looks like Donnie Yen was not the only star to jump on board today. We now have another Martial Artist Jet Li joining the squad. The report says that Li is in final negotiations to play the emperor of China. The Emperor sets the entire film in motion as he orders the mobilization of troops via the conscription of one male from each household, which sends Mulan into her journey to protect her father.

Jet Li in Fearless

Jet Li broke into American Cinema in 1998's Lethal Weapon 4. Since then he has starred in Romeo Must Die, The One, The Expendables Franchise, and The Mummy: Tomb of The Dragon Emperor.
