So if you haven't heard, The Avengers came out a few weeks ago. Yeah, I know; news doesn't travel well under your rock. But whatever the case, The Avengers was about five years in the making—every movie that came before it was leading up to that film. But just because The Avengers is out, it doesn't mean that Marvel Studios will stop making movies. On the contrary, things are heating up quite fast for the studio's post Avengers schedule. And now, the next two films we will see from Marvel, Iron Man 3 and Thor 2, have been taking shape—and adding a couple notworthy actors to their ensemble.
First up is Iron Man 3. The threequel, which is currently shooting right now, has added a trio of actors to their cast. The biggest (and most surprising) is probably Jon Favreau who, in addition to directing the first two films, acted in them as Happy Hogan, Tony Stark's quiet limo driver. Despite the fact that Favreau dropped out of directing Iron Man 3, he will apparently be making an appearance on the other side of the camera. Even though Favreau's character added very little to the first two films, I'm still curious to see what he does in Iron Man 3 now that he isn't in the director's chair. Hopefully, we won't see any sort of power struggle between Favreau and director Shane Black. I doubt it, but what a story that would make!
In addition to Mr. Favreau, a couple of character actors have been added to the cast as well. First up is Ashley Hamilton, an actor many of you have probably never heard of. But he's good friends with Robert Downey Jr., so he got the gig. He'll be playing Firepower, one of the many adversaries that Iron Man will be facing in the film. The second actor is probably a little bit more well known...William Sadler, famous for such roles as Haywood in The Shawshank Redemption and The Grim Reaper in Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey, will have a part in Iron Man 3. Who is he playing? Who knows, but he's on the set having a costume fitting, so that's all that matters! [Variety and Latino Review]
Finally, Casino Royale/Pusher trilogy actor Mads Mikkelsen has been added to the cast of Thor 2, playing the primary villian. Yes, Loki will be backing, but in a lesser capacity than in Thor and The Avengers. Which villian will Mikkelsen be playing? Once again, who knows! But Mikkelsen is a terrific actor, so let's hope he has a great role to play around with.
What do you guys think of the casting? Are you excited to see Marvel's post Avengers films?
