Universal has announced a slew of release dates for upcoming projects, and shuffles for several others...Including 47 Ronin. Again. The Keanu Reeves action film has been pushed back yet again, and I'm starting to wonder if it's ever actually going to come out. But, there's good news here too, especially for fans awaiting Kick-Ass 2.
Let's start things off on a light note shall we? Fans who've been anxiously awaiting the sequel to Kick-Ass (which has had a hell of a time getting off the ground) will be pleased to know that Universal has officially set a release date for June 28, 2013, making it the fourth comic book movie to come out next year. On top of that Jurassic Park 3D has been movie up from July to April 5, 2013. Can't say I'm overjoyed by 3D, but I'll take any excuse to see JP on the big screen again.
The Denzel Washington-Mark Wahlberg film 2 Guns also gets a release date and is set for August 16, 2013. R.I.P.D. the supernatural comedy based on the comic of the same name gets move around here as well. It's going from it's original June date to July 19, 2013. All things considered that's not a bad move, and we won't have to wait much longer for it.
The same can't be said for 47 Ronin, the Keanu Reeves action/samurai film that's been pushed back time and time again. Originally it was supposed to come out this year, then it got pushed back to February of 2013 (which Universal is now filing with Identity Thief). Now, it's been pushed all the way back to Christmas day 2013. That's a big jump, and for a film that's had it's share of problems (at one point being called 'unfinishable') I can't decided if that's a good sign or a bad one. Christmas day is a prime slot, so this could be a sign of the studios faith in the film, but the big delay could mean it's having more trouble too.
Well some good, some bad, but it looks like Universal has a pretty decent line up of things for 2013. Let's hope they're worth it.
