Chris Cooper is just the latest big name to join the cast of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and as Spider Man's ultimate foe no less. But will he suit up or will he go the Dylan Baker route of the original trilogy?
Acting impressario Chris Cooper has signed on to play Norman Osborne in the next installment of The Amazing Spider-Man franchise due out in 2014, Heat Vision reports. Cooper joins an already eclectic cast that includes returning leads Andrew Garfield (Peter Parker) and Emma Stone (Gwen Stacy) as well as new additions Jaime Foxx (as the villainous Electro) and Paul Giamatti (as the also villainous Rhino).
The role of Osborne was famously played by Willem Dafoe in 2002's Spider Man, the first in Sam Raimi's original trilogy, which saw the character fully transform into the Green Goblin before being killed off only to return in the form of his son's (played by James Franco) hallucination. But with so many villains already tacked onto The Amazing Spider-Man 2 I doubt that Cooper's role will follow a similar fate and they'll most likely go to the "mentor" route with a possibility for a future evil a la Dylan Baker in the Sam Raimi films.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2, directed by Marc Webb and written by blockbuster duo Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, hits theaters everywhere May 2, 2014.
