Despite knowing that Riddick is set to release at the tail end of the Summer movie season (September 6th), we haven't really seen a whole lot of footage from the film. We got a quick little teaser (if you could call it that), and that's about it. Now, we've got our first full trailer, with loads of new footage plus a new poster and stills. Come inside to check them all out.
Riddick is the third film in the "Chronicles of Riddick" franchise (though I'm not sure they're calling it that any more) but judging by this trailer, it has much more in common with Pitch Black than it's sequel. Like...it looks almost exactly the same, but I don't mean that in a bad way. Just watch and you'll see what I mean:
It's light on the story, but the trailer gives a much better look at the film and sure packs in the thrills. The VFX looks a little spotty in places, but there's still time to even those out before the film releases. All in all, it's a decent trailer that has piqued my interest in the film. I want to know more and I really want to know how it ties into the previous film, Chronicles of Riddick. We know that Carl Urban is in the film, reprising his role from Chronicles, so there is some way in which these films connect, but we're just not seeing it yet.
The latest chapter of the groundbreaking saga that began with 2000′s hit sci-fi film Pitch Black and 2004′s The Chronicles of Riddick reunites writer/director David Twohy (A Perfect Getaway, The Fugitive) and star Vin Diesel (the Fast and Furious franchise, xXx). Diesel reprises his role as the antihero Riddick, a dangerous, escaped convict wanted by every bounty hunter in the known galaxy.
The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.
The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.
So what do you guys think of the trailer, and the film in general?
