Disney might bring back Mickey Mouse for a feature length film

Disney might bring back Mickey Mouse for a feature length film

Disney Animation is not in the best of places right now.  Although Tangled did pretty good, it wasn't the huge success it should have been.  Tron: Legacy might have made its money back, but nothing more.  And Mars Needs Moms?  Let's not talk about that one.  So who will Disney call on to rejuvenate their studio?  Well, the big man himself; none other than Mickey Mouse.

Bleeding Cool caught this tantalizing piece of news during an interview with long time Disney collaborator Burny Mattinson (who's now a Story Supervisor on Winnie the Pooh). During the interview, Burny had this to say about his next project:

I am working on just an idea of my own which is basically a Mickey, Donald, Goofy feature film idea. We have to present it first to the bosses to get the green light.

Steamboat Willie

Now this doesn't exactly mean this movie will ever get made.  This is apparently a passion project of Burny', and if the Disney executives don't find it to be financially viable, it may not ever see the night of day.  However, what a damn shame it would be.  Because, without seeing even a single bit of concept art or reading a single line of dialogue, I'm already sold on this film.

Yeah i know, this isn't a very good practice.  For all I know, this could be the worst idea ever.  However, just the idea of this gets me excited.  I'm a huge fan of the classic Disney characters, and its been a while since they've gotten their time in the limelight.  A feature film bringing back the three main ones (Mickey, Donald, and Goofy) in any capacity is exciting in its own right.  And in a feature film, no less!

Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Minnie.

Believe it or not, Mickey Mouse has never been the star of a theatrical feature.  Disney knows Mickey is their signature character, and they figure making a movie about him would ruin the character.  Well this is noble of Disney, in their condition (when it comes to films actually made by them), they really could use a return of their classic characters.  If this ever comes to fruition, I'm on board.  That is,\ unless Mickey is some type of hipster, Donald is a goth, and Goofy is a druggie in some modern reinvention of the characters.  And it's in 3D.  And is a blend of live action and CGI.

If you excuse me, I'm going to go have some nightmares about this very scenario.  Good night!
