After leaving the Uncharted film, years ago, Mark Wahlberg is finalizing a deal to re-join the upcoming Tom Holland-led picture. However, this time he wouldn’t be playing Nathan Drake, but instead his beloved adviser. More within…
Nine years ago, Sony Pictures decided to attempt to adapt the critically-acclaimed Uncharted game into a motion picture. Since those 9 years, we’ve seen 5 different directors leave, several re-written scripts, and a couple of lead changes. To say it’s been a roller coaster would be a major understatement.
It appears that Sony has finally found a winning formula, though, in the form of Tom Holland, as a young Nathan Drake, with Travis Knight (Bumblebee) helming the project. Although, as fate would have it, one of the original actors tabbed to be the beloved treasure hunter could be returning to the project.
According to a report by Variety, Mark Wahlberg is in final talks to re-join the Uncharted film as Victor “Sully” Sullivan. The report states that when Wahlberg learned the Uncharted film would be an origin story, he wanted to return in whatever way he could. Enter Sully.
Players that experienced the Uncharted series know that Sully is one of the most beloved characters of the series. Sully is Drake’s caretaker and long-time adviser. In fact, he’s the one who teaches Drake everything he knows about treasure hunting and the world. He’s also responsible for some of the best lines in the series.
It’s incredibly ironic that Wahlberg will be going from leading man to older adviser, as that’s how long this process has taken. In all seriousness, though, Sully actually could be a great role for Wahlberg and the on-screen chemistry between him and Holland could brilliant.
The Uncharted film is set for a 2020 release date.
