Matt Smith, most known for Dr. Who, is the latest to be cast in the upcoming Star Wars Episode IX. According to Variety, the emmy nominated actor has signed on to an unspecified role. This news comes right off the heels of Deadline making the announcement of Dominic Monaghan joining the project as well.
Matt Smith recently was nominated for Netflix’s The Crown as Prince Phillip, and can be seen in the upcoming Charlie Says. Monaghan is reteaming with JJ Abrams who is back to direct Episode IX after leaving after The Force Awakens. The two worked together on LOST.
Episode IX is set to hit theaters December 20th 2019, and will reunite director JJ Abrams with stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Adam Driver. Keri Russell, Richard E. Grant, and Naomi Ackie join the cast this go around, as well as original star Billy Dee Williams reprising his role as Lando Calrissian, Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker and Anthony Daniels as C-3PO. The film is currently in production in the U.K.
