Tom Hiddleston has been a scene-stealing villain as Loki in Thor and the Avengers. He will no doubt be just as engaging in Thor: Dark World. However, he won’t be stealing scenes in the sequel to The Avengers because, according to writer/director Joss Whedon, Loki will not be in it. As of the current script draft for Avengers 2, Loki is not among the characters.
Whedon said, “Everybody is going to be looking for the Loki-Hulk smash moment, and you’ll be looking for a ‘quim moment’ (referring to the controversial phrase Loki says to Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow in The Avengers). First of all, imitating what I did before is the surest way to do it not as well. Second of all, Loki’s not there to say those terrible things.”
Of course, Loki’s absence in the Avengers sequel does not signal the end of the character. He could still turn up in further Thor sequels. On the other hand, perhaps Whedon is hinting that Loki will meet his end in Thor: Dark World. Is Loki doomed? Whedon isn’t saying. We’ll find out on November 8th, when Thor: Dark World is released. Avengers 2 is scheduled to come out on May 1, 2015.
