The trailer is short but full of new footage. We see Carol Danvers riding a motorcycle to a diner to meet with Nick Fury and give him information on the Skrull invasion of Earth. When Fury asks for proof that Danvers herself is not a Skrull, she responds by destroying the jukebox with a photon blast, something Skrulls cannot do (so she says anyway). We also see a sample of the Starforce in action, along with a training session between Danvers and her Kree mentor played by Jude Law. There’s also a quick shot of a visibly younger Phil Coulson talking with Fury about Carol. The rest of the footage is mostly what we’ve seen before with Danvers having flashbacks of her life on Earth, plus some quick shots of her in action in space.
Judging from this and the previous trailers, it looks like Captain Marvel is going to be a careful mix of comedy (Carol’s interactions with Fury) and drama (Starforce, the Skrull invasion). Based on a snippet of conversation between Fury and Coulson in this trailer, it sounds like Captain Marvel’s appearance and the events that follow will spark the creation of the Avenger Initiative mentioned at the end of the the first Iron Man. Despite showing some wonderful action, the film is keeping a lot of details under wraps: we still don’t know how Carol ends up back on Earth or, for that matter, exactly how she ended up part Kree and fighting with Starforce (though the film is hinting heavily at how it all happened). With exactly two months to go before Captain Marvel arrives in theaters, I’m more than excited to see this superhero make her MCU debut. Tickets for Captain Marvel are now on sale!
