I’m not sure how they did it, but this is an incredibly short trailer, that shows almost nothing, but I was still on the edge of my seat the entire time. I was waiting for something to happen, and even though nothing really did, I’m all the more shaky because of it.
I’ve never been big into horror films, but the idea for Paranormal Activity made me really want to see it. It scared the hell out of me, and I thought it was a brilliant piece of filmmaking. There are parts of it I thought could have been done a little better, but the atmosphere was spot on. So when they started talking about a sequel, I was a little put off.
It’s a hard film to follow up, especially since the original director, Oren Peli, will only be in the producer’s chair (taking the helm is Tod Williams). Based off of this trailer, I willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. It doesn’t look like a sequel put out just because the first film made more money than anyone could have guessed (like Blair Witch 2…ugh). It really seems like they’re actually trying with this film.
It picks up exactly where the last film ended, and as I mentioned the trailer shows very little going on. Even so as you’re watching you keep expecting something to happen. Something to pop up in your face, or just a loud noise to make you jump. That’s the beauty of this trailer; the filmmakers know you’re expecting that to happen, and when it doesn’t you realize the mere anticipation of the event had the same effect on you. You’re still jittery and shaken by the experience.
It’s great editing, and a very smart choice by the filmmakers. Let’s just hope they can manage to have the same result with the entire film. Guess we’ll find out Oct 22, 2010.
