A new kids film is on its way to Disney+, as production has begun on an adaptation of Kate DiCamillo‘s Newberry Award-winning book, Flora & Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures. Here’s what it’s about and who is set to star in the film.
Even before Disney+ was officially named, we’ve been in a tizzy about all the incredible original programming coming to Disney’s streaming service. Content like The Mandalorian, WandaVision, Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and the vast catalog of classic Disney films and series. However, there hasn’t been enough announced for the younger crowd.
Thankfully, Disney is working on building that library, as well. This week, Disney has begun production on an adaptation of Kate DiCamillo‘s Newberry Award-winning book, Flora & Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures.
The film’s title will be shortened to “Flora & Ulysses” and tells the story of 10-year-old Flora, an avid comic book fan and a self-avowed cynic, who saves a squirrel she names Ulysses only to have its unique superhero powers wreak havoc in a series of humorous, antic-filled adventures that ultimately change Flora’s life—and her outlook—forever.
Flora & Ulysses is filming in Vancouver right now with Lena Khan (The Tiger Hunter) directing the cast that includes: Matilda Lawler as Flora, in her film debut, Alyson Hannigan (“How I Met Your Mother,” “American Pie”) as Flora’s romance-writer mother, Phyllis, and Ben Schwartz (“Parks and Recreation,” “Modern Family”) as her world-weary, estranged father, George. Newcomer Benjamin Evans Ainsworth plays the role of William, Flora’s newfound, but annoying, friend, and Danny Pudi (“Community,” “The Tiger Hunter”) joins the cast as Miller, an overly zealous animal control officer.
No word yet on when Flora & Ulysses will arrive on Disney+, but with production beginning now and Disney+ launching on November 12, 2019, there’s a decent chance it’ll be in Early 2020, though that’s purely speculation.
What do you think of Flora & Ulysses?
