Yes, you read that right, Paramount and Blumhouse announced today that a seventh installment in the Paranormal Activity franchise is being developed.
The news might come as a surprise, since it was announced in 2015 that Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension would be the definitive end of the story. The saga of Paranormal Activity began in 2009 with a “found footage” film made on a shoestring budget that became a surprise hit at the box office, spawning five sequels in the following years.
Given the gap of time since the last film came out, I half suspect that Paramount and Blumhouse are looking to reboot the franchise altogether (the 7 in the title notwithstanding), since the original story really had run its course with every combination of paranormal and found footage concepts imaginable.
There’s no word yet as to when Paranormal Activity 7 will arrive in theaters. I, for one, am very curious to see what could possibly be done with a seventh entry in the series. What do you think of this news?
