I honestly can’t say that I had any doubts we’d be seeing Tatooine in the new Star Wars movies. The planet (where we first met Luke Skywalker) has made an appearance in every film so far and is pretty iconic in it’s own right. With Disney and J.J. Abrams seeming so intent on recapturing the classic feel of the original trilogy, it would have been more suprising news to here Tatooine would NOT be in Episode VII.
Today’s report comes from a source at the ever reliable Hollywood Reporter, who says:
Star Wars: Episode VII director J.J. Abrams and Disney are planning to build out an extensive re-creation of Tatooine, the desolate home planet of Luke and Anakin Skywalker, in a Morocco-like environment (the original was built in Tunisia).
As I mentioned, this directly coincides with reports that filming would kick off in Morocco (if you’re not counting the things already being shot). With filming officially supposed to go into full swing next month, expect more and more official news to start leaking out. We’re finally at that point fans!
