Two years after we were introduced to a unique take on shark attack films with 47 Meters Down (2017), a first trailer has emerged for the sequel, 47 Meters Down: Uncaged.
In 47 Meters Down: Uncaged, we once more have a small group of women (four this time, instead of two), having fun in the water well-off the beaten track. However, as expected for a film where the villain is a shark, the fun times quickly become a nightmare for our heroines.
Right away, it’s obvious the film has abandoned the premise of the original film: two girls trapped at extreme depths with a ferocious shark blocking their way. Instead, the story has shifted to four girls being trapped in some kind of underwater ruins that also happen to be the lair of a shark. While the premise is different, it also doesn’t appear to be any less terrifying, as the trailer promises a lot of jump scares as the ladies attempt to evade the shark and get to safety. This film promises a satisfactory expansion on the premise established in the first film, but only time will tell if its promises pan out. What do you think of this first trailer?
47 Meters Down: Uncaged follows the story of four teen girls diving in a ruined underwater city, who quickly find themselves in a watery hell as their adventure turns to horror when they learn they are not alone in the submerged caves. As they swim deeper into the claustrophobic labyrinth of caves they enter the territory of the deadliest shark species in the ocean.
47 Meters Down: Uncaged, stars John Corbett, Nia Long, Sophie Nelisse, Corinne Fox, and Sistine Stallone. The film is directed by Johannes Roberts and is scheduled to be released on August 16, 2019.
