So not a whole lot has really changed. The title of the second film was There and Back Again, but now that’s the title of the third film. Seems more fitting honestly, as the title is more evocative of a finale. The second/middle film is now titled The Desolation of Smaug, referencing the massive dragon I can’t wait to see on the big screen. So here’s where we’re at:
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be released December 14, 2012
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will be released on December 13, 2013
The Hobbit: There And Back Again will be released July 18, 2014
It’s seems a tad odd that the third film won’t follow a year later as the others are, but I can’t honestly complain about it. Personally I like that we’re getting the conclusion so soon after the second film. So if there is some big cliffhanger at the end of Desolation of Smaug, we won’t have to wait very long to see how it ends.
