Over the weekend Tom Holland was attending ACE Comic-Con in Seattle. With the actor being notorious for slipping out information on upcoming films, many were hoping/expecting some sort of news regarding his next Marvel outing…but it didn’t happen.
Instead, Holland posted a video to his Instagram where he apologized to fans for not bringing any major news. In the video he mentioned all he could say is that he’s about to begin filming his Spider-Man sequel and that he just got the script…At which point he held it up and “accidentally” revealed the movie’s title: Far From Home.
Obviously, the setup is meant to be a play on his tendency to leak information by accident, but considering scripts don’t use title pages that are full logos, this was definitely a sanctioned reveal. With filming set to begin in just a couple weeks, this is just a cheeky way to handle the announcement.
It’ll be interesting to see how the marketing plays out on this one considering the last time we saw Spider-Man, he was on the wrong end of Thanos’ finger snap. We already know Spider-Man: Far From Home is set to take place just after the end of Avengers 4, and will take him into Europe for portions of the story (hence the title). As such, his existence in the film serves as some sort of spoiler.
While we know not all of the deaths in Avengers: Infinity War will stick, it’ll still be interesting to see how they skirt around it in marketing. Since Far From Home will arrive barely a couple months after Avengers 4…I’m not sure how they’ll plan on marketing that movie without giving away too much about his return. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see!
Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters on July 5, 2019.
