Word of the Star Wars live-action show began spreading around soon after Revenge of the Sith released back in 2005, and since that time, about once a year or so, little updates came out here and there. The last substantial piece of news on the TV show came a couple years ago when, then producer, Rick McCallum said that fifty scripts were completely done. Nothing was done with them however because they weren’t cost effective. Basically, the show has been sitting on the back burner for a long, long time.
With the sale of Lucasfilm to Disney, many fans (myself as well), wondered if this meant that the TV show would get a new lease on life and finally come to pass, though with all the focus initially being on the new films, no one was quite sure. Looks like someone is finally thinking about it. According to Entertainment Weekly, Paul Lee, the ABC president said that now the deal’s done he’s going to be taking a look at the TV series and moving it forward. Here’s what he said:
“We’d love to do something with Lucasfilm, we’re not sure what yet…We haven’t even sat down with them. We’re going to look at [the live-action series], we’re going to look at all of them, and see what’s right. We weren’t able to discuss this with them until [the acquisition] closed and it just closed. It’s definitely going to be part of the conversation.”
Let’s try not to get too excited yet; he’s not saying it’s a for sure thing, but considering most of the pre-production work was already handled on the TV show, it seems possible. Hopefully this will come to pass sooner rather than later, perhaps they’ll wait and see the response they get to Episode VII. At least it’s back on the table!
