With all the hype surrounding the imminent arrival of the final season of Game of Thrones, it is easy to forget that there’s a prequel series on the way. The as-yet-untitled series grew closer to fruition today with the announcement of a rounded out cast list as well as the announcement that S.J. Clarkson (who also worked on Orange is the New Black) would be directing the pilot episode.
In addition to Naomi Watts and Josh Whitehouse, the cast list has expanded to include Naomi Ackie, Denise Gough, Jamie Campbell Bower, Sheila Atim, Ivanno Jeremiah, Georgie Henley, Alex Sharp, and Tony Regbo. All plot and character details remain heavily under wraps, so it is impossible to say who will be playing what role; all we know for sure is that everyone announced will be series regulars. The pilot is supposed to begin filming early this year, while the final season of Game of Thrones is set to premiere in April 2019.
Taking place thousands of years before the events of “Game of Thrones,” the new show chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend–it’s not the story we think we know.
