The hotly anticipated (or not, depending on how you feel about) prequel to Game of Thrones, entitled House of the Dragon, is expected to arrive on HBO sometime in 2022.
Assuming this bears out, this means fans of the goings-on in Westeros have at least two years to wait until House of the Dragon, a prequel series that chronicles the rise of the Targaryen dynasty, arrives on HBO. This makes sense since television pilots are lengthy endeavors to begin with, and anything connected to Game of Thrones is going to be extremely time-consuming to put together given the production values involved.
House of the Dragon will be based on George R.R. Martin’s pseudo-historical book Fire and Blood, a book that purports to be the complete history of the Targaryen dynasty, starting 300 years before the first season of Game of Thrones.
Here’s hoping the 2022 start date holds true and we won’t have to wait too much longer than that to return to Westeros.
