The teaser above should have fans of Jim Henson‘s work squealing in glee for the rest of the day. That’s because Netflix has just greenlit a prequel series to Jim Henson’s film, The Dark Crystal. What’s more is that they will be working with The Jim Henson Company to recreate the magic we experienced in the cinematic sequel.
The series will be 10 episodes and will be called Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. It will take place several years before the 1982 film, following 3 Gelfling who find out the secret behind the Skeksis’ power, and go on a journey to form the rebellion and save the world.
The Jim Henson Co. will produce the series with Louis Letterier doing double duty as Executive Producer and Director. Alongside him will be Lisa Henson and Hallie Stanford as Executive Producers.
One of the people to thank for this series is Cindy Holland, Netflix’s VP of Original Content. She said about the prequel, “‘The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance’ will combine the art of puppetry perfected by The Jim Henson Company, with Louis’ vision, powerful storytelling and a mix of cutting-edge digital imagery and visual effects, I can’t wait for families around the world to see how we bring these unique characters to life.”
Age of Resistance will be shot in the UK this fall, which means we could potentially see it on Netflix sometime in Spring 2018.
