Along with the recent announcement that Batwoman had received a series order came the news that the CW had also given a series order to Nancy Drew, a teen mystery series based on the popular series of Nancy Drew books that have been published since the 1930s.
The series will star Kennedy McMann as the teen sleuth, while Freddie Prinze Jr. will star as Nancy’s father. Pamela Sue Martin, who played Nancy Drew in the 1970s series The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries, will also star in the reboot as a psychic who offers her talents to Nancy to help solve a case. The early synopsis sets the scene for the series:
Set in the summer after her high school graduation, 18-year-old Nancy Drew(Kennedy McMann) thought she’d be leaving her hometown for college, but when a family tragedy holds her back another year, she finds herself embroiled in a ghostly murder investigation — and along the way, uncovers secrets that run deeper than she ever imagined.
It’s not clear when Nancy Drew will debut, but a premiere date should be revealed when the CW reveals its fall schedule on May 16th.
