Disney may have decided not to attend SDCC 2018, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t leave a mark. During a Star Wars: The Clone Wars panel, that was modestly billed as a 10-year anniversary, they made the shocking announcement that Star Wars: The Clone Wars would return for a 7th season! They even included an exciting trailer to give us goosebumps!
The 7th season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars will air 12 episodes exclusively on Disney’s developing streaming service, which is being called “Disney Direct”. Since its cancellation in 2013, fans have clamored and pondered over what might have been if the Clone Wars had continued. There was even a large contingent of supporters of the #SaveTheCloneWars movement that became one of the driving forces of the renewed season.
Dave Filoni remains the Supervising Director and had this to say about the return,
“I honestly didn’t think we would ever have the opportunity to return to The Clone Wars,” says Filoni. “Thanks to the relentless fan support and the team behind Disney’s direct-to-consumer streaming service, we will now get to tell more of those stories. We feel a tremendous responsibility to make something that lives up to the legacy that George Lucas created with the original series and I think our team, many of whom worked on the show from the beginning, has risen to the challenge.”
The return of the Clone Wars will see old storylines continued and the return of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, and Captain Rex!
There is no official word on when the series will return, but just knowing it will is a victory of its own! Stay tuned for more information on Star Wars: The Clone Wars and SDCC 2018, as it unfolds!
