Stephen Amell is returning to the world of pro wrestling, but not exactly as we all thought he would.
Writer Michael Waldron (Loki) and showrunner Mike O’Malley are set to bring us a new show to STARZ called Heels. The show will be about men and women who chase their dreams in the world of small town Indy wrestling. The show will be set in a close-knit Georgia town, and follows a family-owned wrestling promotion as two rival brothers war over their late father’s legacy. In the ring, somebody must play the good guy and somebody must play the heel. In the real world, those characters can be hard to live up to, or hard to leave behind.
The CW’s Arrow star Stephen Amell has signed on to lead Heels as the “Bad Guy Brother”. The character will be named Jack Spade, who is a charismatic villain, or heel, of the Duffy Wrestling Association. Outside the ring he is DWA’s owner, husband and father trying to make ends meet while fighting to realize his impossible dreams. With the mind of an artist in the body of a warrior and a Steve Jobs-like need for perfection and for control. He says he’ll do whatever it takes to build the DWA into an empire.
With Amell attached to the project it has received a series greenlight and an eight-episode order. It also looks as if Amell is reaching out to his Wrestling friends for some help….
