10. Green Lantern

To tell you the truth, I wasn't exactly confident that putting Green Lantern on this list was a good choice.  The superhero aspects of the film certainly give it some box office cred, but are the other aspects to (pardon the pun) alienating for general audiences?  The way I see it, Green Lantern is the biggest risk of the summer.  It could do fantastic, or it could bomb horribly in true Speed Racer fashion.  Personally, I'm predicting it will do Tron Legacy numbers domestically; okay, but not what the studio had hoped for.  But don't fret Lantern fans, the film's going to make a killing overseas.

Domestic Prediction: $150-180 Million

International Prediction: $200-225 Million

Worldwide Total: $350-375 Million

9.  X-Men: First Class

While buzz on the film has been virtually non-existent amongst the general public, I expect that will change soon enough.  The X-Men franchise still has a lot of clout amongst film fans and, unless an unfamiliar cast scares them away,  I expect it will do just as well as its franchise brethren did years ago.

Domestic Prediction: $210-230 Million

International Prediction: $190-210 Million

Worldwide Total: $420-440 Million

8. Thor

If it wasn't for last weekend, Thor would be a hard film to peg.  However, it did moderately well last weekend, both domestically and internationally.  And since it's next superhero competition won't be until X-Men: First Class, I expect it to have strong legs throughout the early Summer season.

Domestic Prediction: $190-215 Million

International Prediction: $230-250 Million

Worldwide Total: $420-440 Million

7. Captain America

It seems a little weird, but I just realized I've stacked up all the superhero movies towards the bottom of this list.  In any other year, this would seem idiotic (it still might be), but it really goes to show how packed this year will be.  Now you're probably wondering why I think Captain America will rise above all the other superhero films and make the most bank this summer, right?  Well, it's simple: it's the most standard of the films, and its about America and patriotism.  While this won't translate well to the international market, I expect a huge domestic gross.

Domestic Prediction: $260-280 million

International: $75-95 Million

6. The Hangover: Part II

The first Hangover made almost $470 million dollars two years ago, becoming the highest grossing R-rated comedy ever made.  Now it's practically a must for every frat boys collection, and it's jokes are mis-quoted all over the world.  The sequel, The Hangover: Part II is on almost everyone's "Must Watch" list, and is tracking remarkably high.  Move out of the way, The Hangover. You're record is about to be broken.

Domestic Prediction: $280-300 million

International Prediction: $200-220 million

Worldwide Total: $480-500 million

5. Kung Fu Panda 2

The first film was the sixth highest grossing film of 2008, and anticipation for the sequel has been building up since then.  Kids love Kung Fu Panda, and the first one made a killing overseas.  While it's facing competition from The Hangover: Part II, that won't stop the kids from begging their parents to see it.

Domestic Prediction: $225-250 million

International Prediction: $420-440 million

Worldwide Total: $645-665 million

4. Cars 2

Not only was the original Cars a box office juggernaut back in 2006, but the audience has been building and building since its release five years ago.  Believe it or not, kids LOVE Cars (that's one of the reasons why they made the film in the first place).  It opens with little competition in terms of family flicks, it appeals to all parts of the globe, and it's Pixar; so it basically has a license to print money, whether I like it or not.

Domestic Prediction: $300-320 million

International Prediction: $440-460 million

Worldwide Total: $740-760 million

3. Transformers: Dark of the Moon

It doesn't matter how the good film is, or if its offensive; Transformers is a sure-fire boat load of cash.  While I don't expect it will break records, it will do perfectly fine...just like always.  Chalk it up to another Michael Bay success.

Domestic Prediction: $400-420 million

International Prediction: $430-450 million

Worldwide Total: $830-850 million

2. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Another franchise pic, Pirates has been absent from the big screen for about four years now, but in no way has that impacted people's love for the series.  I could ask any person on the street the one movie they intend on seeing this year, and chances are they would say Pirates 4. For better or worse, Pirates is a dependable franchise that is here to stay.

Domestic Prediction: $300-320 million

International Prediction: $640-660 million

Worldwide Total: $940-960 million dollars

1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2

The ending of a franchise always delivers the most in terms of box office.  At that point, seeing the movie becomes an "event."  The kind of thing you'll tell your children about 20 years from now.  For years, the Harry Potter franchise has been trying to hit that billion dollar mark.  As the end approached, the numbers went up.  Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 grossed $955 million dollars worldwide.  But it's the end of a series, the end of an era.  People will go.  And now, in it's final hour, Harry Potter will break the billion dollar mark.

Domestic Prediction: $320-340 million

International Prediction: $670-700 milllion

Worldwide Total: $980 million-1 billion

Dark Horses:

Bridesmaids- The film is apparently hilarious, and could find itself blow up ala The Hangover. But will males be able to drop their "chick flick" bias and catch the film WITHOUT a woman tagging along?

Cowboys vs. Aliens- The star power is intense, but is the premise to "out there" for mainstream audiences?

Rise of the Planet of the Apes- The last Planet of the Apes made a pretty decent haul, but will a hugely different premise and lack of Tim Burton turn audiences off?

Super 8- It pains me to leave Super 8 off this list, but it's to much of a risk for me to include it.  If the film's good enough, hopefully audiences will rush to it.

Well there you have it, our picks for the highest grossing films of Summer 2011.  Despite all the ground we covered, there's still plenty of films out there that could find themselves making mounds of box office money.  What do you think will gross the most?
