Movie Buff Christmas Wish List 2013

The holiday season is now firmly upon us and it’s time to kick your Christmas shopping into high gear.  Chances are, there’s at least one person on your shopping list who happens to be a big movie buff.  We admit, we’re not the easiest type of people to shop for, but you’re in luck as our talented staff of cinephiles have come up with a Movie Buff Wish List of awesome movie related gifts we’d love to find under our tree.  Come inside to check out the hottest items cinema enthusiasts want to help you find the perfect gift for that movie buff in your own life!

Star Wars Ralph McQuarrie Darth Vader Castle Beer Stein

No Christmas list of mine would be complete (or even exist) without something Star Wars on it.  These beer steins, which incorporates concept art from the amazing Ralph McQuarrie, are exactly what I need.  As I’ve grown older, my massive Star Wars collection has moved away from action figures and toys, and into the more unique household items.  While I have a plethora of Star Wars mugs, cups, and even custom whiskey glasses, I don’t have any beer steins.  It’s a big hole in my life right now.

The Dark Knight Trilogy: Ultimate Collector’s Edition

Sure, I already own each of these films individually on blu-ray, but there’s something about this bundled edition that’s just amazing.  New interviews and featurettes add tons of stuff for diehard fans of Nolan’s Batman trilogy to enjoy.  Not to mention the bonus collectibles that make any movie buff giddy like a school girl.  It’s a neat package that looks good on the entertainment shelf and is sure to grab anyone’s attention.

Minimalist Movie Posters

Any movie buff loves movie posters, and if they don’t already have a few of them on the walls of their office or bedroom, would like to. Movie posters can sometimes be artistic and they allow fans to show off the films they love. Unfortunately, having a bunch of movie posters plastered to your walls is somewhat tacky. What’s the solution? Minimalist movie posters. These are fan-made, so you can support independent artists while sprucing up their pad. Plus, because they aren’t splattered with trademarks or official movie logos, they look pretty sharp and your movie buff will appreciate their wit.

Alfred Hitchcock: The Masterpiece Collection Blu-ray Set

This isn’t a new release, but it is still one of the most awesome Blu-ray bundles you can buy. Not only does it feature 15 of Hitchcock’s most popular films (Including Vertigo, Rear Window, The Birds, The Man Who Knew Too Much, Psycho and North by Northwest), but some of these blu-ray transfers are new or remastered - meaning you won’t find them anywhere else. I’ve heard that the remaster for Rear Window is fantastic. Each film has special features such as production stills, trailers, commentaries, photographs and documentaries included. This is the ultimate blu-ray collection for the ultimate movie fan - but be warned, it is difficult to find.

Tarantino XX Blu-Ray Collection

Quentin Tarantino has been making his particular brand of movies for 20 years now. This is a homage to that legacy but its much more than just a collection of his best films. Sure, it includes classics like Pulp Fiction and Inglorious Basterds, but it also features some of his less popular movies, like Jackie Brown and Death Proof. It even includes True Romance, a film he didn’t direct (Tony Scott did) but wrote and influenced heavily. In addition to 8 Tarantino movies, the set includes a documentary that retells the story of his first 20 years of making films and a piece where critics discuss his films and their impact. This is a great collection for any movie buff, even if they already own one or two of the films featured.

“Chewbacca” Hoodie

Want to look like your favorite lovable Star Wars character but don’t want to deal with masks or complicated full-body costumes? ThinkGeek has a simple solution with this zip-up Chewy hoodie, complete with bandolier and enough fake fuzz to keep you warm in any condition. Put the hood up and you’re ready to go threaten to pull people’s arms out of their sockets if they don’t let you win.

The Vincent Price Blu-Ray Collection

I’ve been a huge fan of Vincent Price for as long as I can remember. Something about his playful, yet creepy demeanor that  has always captivated me. This is a great collection of some of Price’s work, containing:

1. The Fall of House of Usher a.k.a House of Usher (1960).
2. The Pit and the Pendulum (1961).
3. The Haunted Palace (1963).
4. The Masque of the Red Death (1964).
5. Witchfinder General - and its alternate U.S. version of the film, The Conqueror Worm (1968).
6. The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971).

As well as a ton of really cool extras that will make any Vincent Price fan incredibly happy.

Bruce Banner and Hulk figure set by Hot Toys

Sideshow Collectibles and Hot Toys bring us a highly detailed Bruce Banner and Hulk Sixth Scale Figure Set  based on Mark Ruffalo’s portrayal in the film The Avengers and features a newly developed head sculpt, highly-detailed costume, and accessories.  This astonishingly expensive figure set might smash your bank account, but whats a little green for an amazing showpiece from the number three movie of all time.

Todd McFarlane The Walking Dead Figures

I wanted to find something that has a good range in price, but was also rather neat. I think this is the perfect idea. The Walking Dead is massive right now, both in TV and comics, so there is a good chance someone you know will love these. They range from 15 dollars up to a couple hundred dollars for the more detailed, or limited, versions. However unlike other companies, even the cheap ones are really great detail and worthwhile to own. I have several from different ranges myself. I know Daryl is on my Christmas list!

Character Hoodies

These are getting more popular by the day because they are really neat. They are jackets designed to make you become your favorite character. Of course I couldn’t resist the Spider-Man hoody, my favorite hero, and I love it. I get compliments on it everywhere I go, and I don’t ever have the mask on. The mask is the hood, you can zip the jacket all the way up to your head and it becomes a mask, and you can see through the eyes. It does extremely well of keeping your face warm too. I found mine at Wal-Mart for 20 dollars, yep only 20 dollars! However I can’t find it on their site, so head out to the mens clothing area of your local wal-mart to find it. I did find another cool Spider-Man jacket on clearance at Wal-Mart, and an old link to the jackets on another website that I’ll list below.

A Christmas Story BB Gun

I noticed several stores are selling the BB gun from the movie A Christmas Story. I love that movie and think it would be really neat to find this in a present under the tree. If your family shares a pastime of watching the movie every year, perhaps you can check that out too. I just wanted to add this to the list, since you know, its Christmas time!

Hopefully our Christmas picks will be a help to you as you're out shopping for the cinephile in your life this holiday season.  If you've got other great ideas for people to pick up, be sure to share them with us in the comments.  Come back early next week when we'll be sharing our Gamer Wish List!
