The humans of the new Pacific Rim movie are good and all but let's talk these mechs that they are piloting because let's face it, I like the Jaegers better than humans.
Everyone is building up excitement for the upcoming sequel to the Pacific Rim Pacific Rim Uprising. Which the official trailer was shown at NYCC 2017 and you can watch that here. We’re starting to get more detail about the characters Mako, Jake, and Lambert. Jake Pentacost apparently was a Jaeger pilot who left the program abandoning his copilot Major Nate Lambert who has some animosity against Jake for that. Jake has apparently in his time away been a bit of a criminal selling weapons on the black market. He never felt he was living up to his father Stacker Pentacost’s expectations and had jealousy towards his adopted sister Mako who has now become a trainer for the modern day Jaeger pilots. After the last straw with Jake she forces him back into the Jaeger program to pilot the Gypsy Avenger.
Now with movies like this I always find myself saying the same thing. I need more robots and less humans. The first movie had some very different and awesome designs but we didn’t get a lot of screen time with them. Already we are seeing some very good shots of the different styles of Jaegers from teasers, trailers, exclusive shots, and most importantly, toys. So today I’m going to introduce you guys to the new generation of Jaegers. Which first off flight capable Jaegers is now a thing.
Gyspy Avenger is a newer Mark VI Jaeger and the flagship of the fleet. She bears the name of the famous mech that fought and won the Battle of the Breach. Looking at this one I gotta say the classics never go out of style. I love the twin hearts or dual vortex turbines directly taken from the original Gypsy Danger. Armaments include 2.0 versions of the chain sword, elbow rocket, and plasma caster. Loving this sleeker upgrade of my favorite mech in this series and you can bet she’s probably going to have a few more surprises under the hood.
"Gipsy Avenger honors the heroic legacy of her namesake as the flagship leader of the Mark VI fleet. More than just a Jaeger, she is a symbol of hope to millions."
Bracer Phoenix is a Mark V that can apparently still keep up with the newer units. While looking squat and powerful this jaeger’s answer to kaiju is a strong ranged offense. Armed with a gunner pod, anti kaiju missile launchers, and a vortex cannon firepower is not lacking on this unit. If you like gundam this may tickle the fancy of all you Heavy Arms fans.
"A Mark V brute that can still run with the VI’s, Bracer Phoenix shoots from the chest, with a centrifugal vortex cannon that is as spectacular as it is deadly."
Armed with salvo pods on the sides of its torso Guardian Bravo is another ranged fighter but primarily ranged melee combat with electro whips officially called Elect-Arc Whips
"Designed for combat at range, Guardian Bravo wields the Elec-16 Arc Whip: a proto-metallic successor to the chainsword, and brings a new sophistication to the chainsword’s whiplash move."
Saber Athena is the fastest of the new jaegers armed with twin swords that can be combined to a dual sided style blade. Everything about this Jaeger screams speed and we all know speed kills. The afore mentioned twin back blades, N-16 Particle Charger for ranged combat, and RG-28 Accelerator limbs make for one fast and agile unit.
"The sleekest and most elegant Jaeger ever created, Saber Athena is the fastest in the fleet, wielding twin blades in hyper-acrobatic combat."
I cannot deny the similarities between this unit and the Transformers Prime version of Bulkhead. Wrecking ball arms that also spin while surrounded by spikes may seem like trying to hard I say it’s just enough. This Mark VI seems to be heavily armored for close quarters combat armed with EMP mist grenades the previously mention M-19 Morning Star, and Flatfoot sentry treads to steady the unit.
"Built for brute force and armed with a seismic morningstar, Titan Redeemer is the walking wrecking ball of the new fleet."
Okay I don’t know much about this one but can I give you a theory? This is the old Gypsy Danger. Now we heard some rumors that the aliens would use our tech against us. The swords, the stature just tells me this was scrapped from tech from the old Gypsy. Time will tell us who’s piloting this mech but for now I’m going to say I’m right and if I am you may reward me with high grade Transformers and mid-grade bourbon.
Look for more details as we get closer to the film and maybe even some reviews of some of these awesome toys we're seeing at NYCC 2017.
