Square Enix Reveals New Batman Figure; The Dark Knight as a Final Fantasy Character

I limit myself to only collecting Star Wars stuff, but every now and again something really neat comes along that challenges my stance on that.  Last night, Square Enix revealed a new line of Batman related figures that will feature characters re-imagined by renowned Final Fantasy/Kingdom Hearts artist Tetsuya Nomura.  So no, they may not look like the classic Batman characters you know, but that doesn’t make them any less cool.

They announced the line by revealing this new Batman figure…and I can’t stop looking at it:

Square Enix, Inc., the publisher of SQUARE ENIX® interactive entertainment products in the Americas, announced today a new line of collectible Batman figures for the high-end PLAY ARTS -KAI- series under licensing agreement with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, on behalf of DC Entertainment. The new line features original designs by Tetsuya Nomura, the designer/creator behind the renowned FINAL FANTASY® and KINGDOM HEARTS video game series.

SQUARE ENIX PRODUCTS, the collectible merchandise line by SQUARE ENIX, has previously released original iterations of the DC Comics Super Heroes through the DC Comics VARIANT PLAY ARTS -KAI- action figure series to much acclaim, and Nomura’s rendition is scheduled to join this line-up next. The official product name will be announced at a later date, but the prototype is scheduled to be on display at the SQUARE ENIX booth (#3829) for a first look at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
