When go through video game lore, there are characters that have stood the test of time, that people still have fond memories about. Mario would likely come to mind for most, but Spyro the Dragon had a deep impact on my video game education. I remember growing up in Greece, I had to go to a video game shop to play all the latest video games. Unlike in America where you could rent out games for days, you could only play for about an hour. The game I spent the most time with was Spyro.
Spyro the Dragon is one of my all-time favorite platformers because it allowed gamers to fly, breath fire, be a DRAGON. While that all made the gameplay tons of fun, the fact that you were a charismatic dragon, interacting with magical friends and enemies, made it even more memorable.
Fortunately, after months of leaks and speculation, Activision has finally announced that a Spyro the Dragon remastered trilogy is on its way. However, that’s not the best part of the news. What makes this news so great is that Spyro Reignited Trilogy is releasing September 21, 2018 for just $39.99! Check out the announcement trailer…
Much like how Crash Bandicoot has his N. Sane Trilogy, Spyro’s Reignited Trilogy brings back the first three games from the iconic franchise. Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage!, and Spyro: Year of the Dragon have been brought back to life with today’s technology, thanks to Activision‘s developer Toys for Bob.
“We’re deeply passionate about staying true to the legacy of the original three Spyro games with the Spyro Reignited Trilogy,” said Paul Yan, Chief Creative Officer at Toys For Bob. “We’ve poured a lot of love into making the personalities and worlds feel just like fans remember them, while also keeping the game collection surprisingly fresh with lush, high definition detail. We’re bringing back the Spyro we all fell in love with 20 years ago.”
Remade from the ground up by lead developer Toys for Bob, the Spyro Reignited Trilogy features the fun and nostalgic gameplay that fans remember with more than 100 levels, enhanced reward sequences, Spyro’s gang of zany dragons and other goofballs (including Sparx the Dragonfly, Hunter, Sheila, Agent 9 and Sgt. Byrd) and more. The trilogy also includes improved environments, updated controls, brand-new lighting and recreated cinematics for added flavor in this one-of-a-kind adventure.
While there are a ton of new features and elements coming this September to the remastered Spyro games, there is one piece of the old games that will be returning. That would be the voice of Spyro in Spyro 2 and Year of the Dragon, Tom Kenny. Plus, as an added bonus, players who own the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy can enter ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → square in Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped‘s title screen to watch the Spyro Reignited Trailer again and again. It won’t be different from what you watched above, but it’s a cool way to watch the trailer while giving gamers a throwback to appreciate.
