Nintendo‘s E3 2019 Direct was full of new game announcements and surprises, but few made the splash that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate did, with the announcement of two new playable characters, Banjo-Kazooie & The Hero from Dragon Quest. Here they are…
Last year, Nintendo‘s E3 2018 Direct piece de resistance was undoubtedly Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Nintendo fans gathered around to see what the next chapter in the mash-up fighting game would look like. When it was announced that there would new characters arriving in the form of DLC, ideas of who they would be began swirling.
It appears Nintendo was listening, because while several characters had their name thrown into the ring, few were as represented as Banjo-Kazooie. Now, the bear and bird duo are part of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Banjo the bear and his bird friend, Kazooie, star in a series of games that began on Nintendo 64. Although Banjo the bear was first introduced in Diddy Kong Racing for Nintendo 64, the kind-hearted character is best known for joining up with his wise-cracking bird sidekick Kazooie in the 1998 Nintendo 64 game Banjo-Kazooie. The beloved pair has remained inseparable since, working together using an arsenal of acrobatic and egg-shooting moves to defeat enemies, overcome obstacles and locate golden puzzle pieces.
Banjo and Kazooie weren’t the first characters to be announced, though. That honor goes to The Hero of Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age, and the many forms of the protagonist of the Dragon Quest series.
Hero represents the main character from several games in the DRAGON QUEST series. He can take the form of the protagonist from DRAGON QUEST XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age, DRAGON QUEST III: The Seeds of Salvation, DRAGON QUEST IV: Chapters of the Chosen and DRAGON QUEST VIII: Journey of the Cursed King.
The Hero(es) of the Dragon Quest series will be available to play this Summer and Banjo-Kazooie will arrive this Fall on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Stay tuned for more coverage of E3 2019!
