Well folks, get your 2015 calendar out and mark down June 2, 2015.  That’s the day that Batman: Arkham Knight, Rocksteady’s conclusion to their Batman trilogy of games, will be hitting the Xbox One and PS4.  While I’m very excited about finally having a new release date for the game, I admit I’m kind of shocked at how far away it is.  When they initially announced the delay into 2015, they made it sound somewhat minor.  I was fully expecting to see a February or March release date for Arkham Knight, and not a push all the way into Summer.

The good side of this, is that we’ll all have something major to play during the traditional “Summer Slump” period.  Not a whole lot of AAA games release during the Summer, and a lot of gamers use that time to catch up on the backlog.  So having something new and this big during that time period will certainly make waves.  It’s a smart move, really, considering it gives them virtually no competition and is almost guaranteed to sell a crazy amount.

Hopefully this is time well spent for the development of the game, and pays off in the long run for gamers.  With Rocksteady having already proven itself with Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, I have little doubt they can make an incredible experience for the new generation platforms.  Still, such a long delay makes me hope for a game that utterly blows me away and will withstand the test of time.

Update: The official PR announcement has come into the inbox and within they detailed not one, but two different collector’s editions of the games available.  Check it out:
