One of the most devastating events in our lifetime is occurring right now in Australia. To help fight the devastating bushfires and aid all those effected by it, video game developers are rallying players to donate and offering some rewards for doing so. More within…

Australia is in desperate need of help. For weeks now, the continent has been experiencing bushfires the likes of which we’ve never seen. Families have lost homes and loved ones, firefighters are risking their lives, and reportedly roughly a billion wildlife have lost their lives, with a few species now on the brink of extinction. It’s an absolutely tragic situation that requires our undivided attention.

I know that for a lot of people, looking from the outside-in, it can be difficult to know what you can do. Honestly, in these times of need, the best thing you can do is donate any amount of money you can to help the relief efforts. Thankfully, a few developers have taken the guesswork out of trying to figure out which cause to send your money, while adding a reward to players that do.

Below are the developers, who they’re donating to, and how you can help:

Activision/Infinity Ward

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players can donate by simply purchasing the new Outback Relief Pack. Activision and Infinity Ward have announced that now through January 31st, 100% of Activision’s net proceeds from each purchase will be donated to provide relief toward the bushfires. If anyone previously purchased the formerly-dubbed “Outback” pack, that purchase will count toward donation.

Bungie

On their weekly edition of This Week at Bungie, the developer discussed plans to do their part to help aid those dealing with devastation. Between January 16 and February 18, Bungie will be selling a limited-edition T-shirt with 100% of proceeds being split 50/50 between WIRES, Australia’s largest wildlife rescue organization, and NSW Rural Fire Service, which services the state of New South Wales, an area where the fires have been especially devastating.

Each purchase of the shirt will also include an exclusive “Star Light, Star Bright” emblem redemption code, as an added thank you for donating. As for the design of the shirt, it is set to be displayed early this week. Check back here to see it.

Where to Donate

If neither of these options work for you, the direct links to donate are below:

WIRES – Australian Wildlife Rescue Organization

NSW Rural Fire Service – Supporting Firefighters in New South Wales

I hope you consider doing your part in whatever way you can. Even if funds are tight, simply spreading the word and bringing this tragic event to people’s attention helps. Our hearts and thoughts are with those who are feeling the effects and fighting the bushfires.
